POLICE are searching for a gang of three men following an attack which left a driver showered with glass as they snatched his cash bag.
A police spokesman said the attack took place outside News 77 at Arndale Square, in Newcastle, at 10.05am on Friday.
One man used a crowbar to smash the nearside window of the victim's car, while the second man used a hammer to smash the offside windows to prevent him getting out.
The robbers then snatched his cash bag and ran into Pennine Way where they got into a blue F-registered Ford Granada, where an accomplice was waiting.
The victim was shocked but unhurt.
The first suspect was described as in his early twenties, about 6ft tall, slim, wearing a blue cagoule jacket, which was possibly padded and had either a hood or baseball cap.
He was also wearing yellow industrial gloves.
The second man had blond hair and was wearing a light-coloured fleece jacket. There is no description of the driver.
Anyone with information has been asked to call the police on 0191-214 6555, extension 63326 or 63373
