Life with Sunderland has always been a roller coaster of emotions and our lacklustre performance against Ipswich brought many sighs. We were made to look second best and with the exception of Macho, the blame for this inept display can only be put down to a very much under par team performance. We can - and must - play a lot better or else we could find ourselves in trouble. The folks say that it rained quite hard back home, but I can tell you that at Ipswich we had to endure a bit of a shower as well.

After a second defeat against two teams coming up from division one who are certainly not the best is very disappointing. Our display lacked any creative play from an ineffectual midfield. We had no width, shape or direction and cannot continue with the long ball to Quinn. There were problems in defence and again Butler's lack of pace and poor distribution show that he is not real Premiership quality and with Varga injured I would like to see Jody Craddock teamed up with a fit Steve Bould. While its too early to panic, on the performances to date my pre season optimism is already beginning to fade. Its now vital that we get a result against West Ham in our next home match, before Old Trafford
