Norman Ellis took top prize with a leek measuring 237.67cubic inches at Sedgefield's Golden Lion Leek Show at the weekend.

Eric Watt was second with 221.66 cu ins, followed by M McCarthy (145.52), P Dawson (139.65), J Colebrook (121.93) and D Theakston (116.72).

As well as winning the William W. Turnbull Cup for pot leeks, Norman Ellis took the Holly and Jack Smith Memorial Trophy for a stand of five chrysanthemums.

The H. Lamb Cup for best leek in show went to E Watt.

The G Robinson Cup for most points in show, and the W Summer Memorial Salver for the best stand of stump carrots went to T. Ruecroft.

The T Gill Memorial Salver for the best vase of flowers was won by T Connor.
