A MOTHER who says her life changed when she took up sport has defended facilities in the region.

Sue Hammler said she was angered by comments made recently about the lack of sporting facilities in the North-East.

The 47-year-old, who lives in Middleton St George, near Darlington, transformed her sedentary life as a secretary when her children went to school.

She started going to the gym five times a week and gave up her job to enrol on a full-time Sports Therapy course at Teesside Tertiary College.

Sue now works as a sports therapist from her home and at Eastbourne Sports Complex, in Darlington.

She said: "The facilities at Eastbourne and the college are superb. I think the North-East doesn't shout about the quality of their sports facilities enough," she said
