TOWN mayor Dorothy Long has officially launched the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal for Darlington and District.
Last year, the appeal, which is in its 79th year, raised £28,000 for former servicemen and their families.
Certificates were presented at Darlington Town Hall yesterday to veteran fundraisers.
Laura Preston and May Bell, who have more than 30 years between them raising money for the appeal, received certificates.
Mike Dalton, of Darlington's Greenbank Hotel, was also honoured for his efforts
