FUNDRAISERS hope a sponsored head shave and signed football will net money for Children in Need.

A football autographed by players from Darlington Football Club is to be auctioned during telephone bidding in aid of the charity and presented to the winner during a fun night at Shildon Civic Centre on Friday.

Special guest Pudsey Bear will make an appearance during the charity evening, when items donated by Shildon shopkeepers will be up for bidding and there will be a raffle and disco.

But before the Shildon Chamber of Trade charity night starts, Shildon butcher Brian Stoker will be having his head shaved to raise further money for the cause.

The chamber of trade chairman is not the only one making a big sacrifice.

He said: "There are several people in the town joining in the spirit of things.

"One woman, Barbara Bowman, is making a 24-hour 'no smoking' effort, and her son, John, will be taking part in a sponsored fast.

A girl who works for him will be doing a 24-hour sponsored silence.

If you would like to bid for the football, telephone Mr Stoker at his shop on (01388) 772968. All bids must be made by 6pm today
