A CHURCH in Darlington is to host several events in the coming weeks.

St James the Great, Albert Hill, will be holding a wine tasting evening tomorrow.

The event will also include a finger buffet and will be held in the church hall from 7.30pm.

Wines from around the world will be featured and the guide for the evening will be Canon David Hinge of Ingleton.

Tickets for the evening are £10, which includes eight tastings and the finger buffet.

On Sunday, the church will welcome the new Bishop of Beverley, the Right Reverend Martyn Jarrett, the former Bishop of Burnley.

He will preach and preside at a solemn mass and administer confirmations and first communions.

The service, at 10am, will be followed by a reception in the church hall.

On Thursday, November 2, All Souls Day, the church will be holding a sung requiem mass from 7.30pm. It is the day when prayers are said for those who have died.
