SECURITY in schools is always a big worry, but at Eastbourne there have been many developments during the last term.

The "archways" have now been filled in and will provide a seating area for pupils.

The pupils are now using many of the original doors that disappeared when the school building was changed in the 1960s.

Electronic locks, which are controlled by a timing device, ensure that intruders cannot enter the building between lessons.

Eastbourne was one of the first schools in Darlington to have cameras fitted to the outside of the building.

The school has now fitted a camera system which covers entrances and corridors and is monitored from the reception.

This, together with uniforms for pupils and support staff, means that Eastbourne is providing a place that is as safe as a busy building can be.
