Seaham Red Star suffered humiliation when they were beaten by Nissan, the Wearside League champions, in the Albany Durham Challenge Cup.

Red Star went down 1-0, the only goal scored by Adam Johnson from a pass by Glen Moan after 15 minutes. The closest Seaham came to scoring was a shot by Dave Callaghan which hit the bar.

Crook Town lost 2-1 at home to Shildon, after they took the lead through Allan Jones after 32 minutes.

Former Crook player Les Langley levelled after 75 minutes and after Crook's Neil Burn was sent off for two bookable offences, Neil Corking got the winner four minutes from time.

Durham City won 3-2 at Consett. Goals by Micky Taylor and Stuart Irvine were in turn cancelled out by Trevor Laidler and Chris Hodgson before half time, but Irvine got the winner from twelve yards after 62 minutes.

Bishop Auckland were the night's highest scorers, putting eight without replay past Harton and Westoe. Striker Andrew Shaw returned from injury to score five, with Micky Dunwell (2) and Anthony Lee getting the others.

Holders Darlington fielded a young side and won 2-1 at Esh Winning.

Mark Jarvis put them in front from the penalty spot after 35 minutes, but Dean Smithson beat three men to level after 65 minutes. Mark Sheron got the winner for Quakers with ten minutes left.

Easington's Durham Challenge Cup tie with Brandon, which was postponed earlier this week, has been rearranged for Tuesday night, kick off 7.30 but that all depends on any FA Cup replay with Chester City.

The Albany Northern League Cup tie between Dunston and Bedlington has been arranged for Tuesday November 21.

The original game was postponed by Bedlington when they couldn't raise a team, and were subsequently fined £50 by the league.

Peterlee manager Eddie Freeman made his first appearance of the season on Saturday - but only for l a few seconds.

Freeman, who has guided the club to a top three place with an excellent start to the season, named himself as one of the subs for the game at Consett on Saturday.

Freeman made two substitutions in the game, and then another player picked up an injury in the closing stages of the game, so Freeman went on.

But no sooner had he gone on the pitch the whistle went for full time, and a 2-0 win for Peterlee.

"It was my first appearance since last season. I only made about a dozen steps on to the field, then the referee blew for full time."

Spennymoor manager Peter Mulcaster blasted his players after were beaten 2-0 by Albany Northern League club South Shields in the competition on Tuesday night.

Mulcaster, was very angry immediately after the game, and stormed: "Five or six players turned our team into a Wearside League team by the way they played.

"I was very disappointed with the attitude of certain players, after our win in the league last Saturday.

"They thought they just had to turn up to win, and they were completely wrong. South Shields were the better side from start to finish. We were disgraceful."

Kenny Davis scored both goals for Shields against the UniBond League opponents.

His first was when he chipped John Jackson, and the second a header from a right wing cross.

Shields' win maintains the recent good record which the Northern League has against the UniBond League, as Bedlington, Billingham Town, Easington and Whitley Bay have all pulled off wins against UniBond League opposition this season.

West Auckland beat Billingham Synthonia for the second time in four days, this time 2-1.

West took the lead after 22 minutes when Paul Nozedar fired home from the edge of the box, but Lee Flanagan levelled with a header at the near post.

They got the winner just before half time with a Carl Beesley penalty, after Nozedar had been brought down.

Synners had most of the pressure in the second half, but the closest they came to scoring was when they hit the bar.

Chester-le-Street bounced back from last Saturday's FA Vase disappointment when they beat Peterlee 3-1.

Chester took the lead when Paul Bryson hit the bar and Gary Shields knocked in the rebound.

Shields replied with a goal from Chris Creamer but Chester regained the lead when Shields crossed for John Heggarty to head in.

Heggarty got the third when a Chad Bone through ball caused confusion, and he headed past the keeper.
