Cleveland entertained Tyne and Wear at their new venue, Visions, Billingham Green, and in a great weekend the home side secured the top spot in table with a win.

Saturday started with the Ladies B and on her county debut, Mandy Stephens (12.94) was unfortunate to have to go on first and lost 3-0. Pat A Smith (13.70) won 3-1 to level the score before Tyne & Wear won the next three. Jean Atkinson (13.83) lost 3-2 (double trouble), Barbara Bradley (12.69) lost 3-0 (again double trouble) and Karen Helmore (18.27) lost 3-2, (once again double trouble), Mollie Pywell (16.37) won 3-1, to reduce the deficit to 4-2.

Cleveland Lady of the Match: Mollie Pywell

Colin Johnson (25.47) got the B off to a winning start when he won 3-0 but Harry Alderson (21.80) lost 3-1 before Carl Smith (20.69) won 3-1 and Terry Ferguson (27.05) won 3-1. Ian Dawson (22.52) lost the next match 3-0, Peter Nugent (22.43) won 3-0 to put Cleveland 4-2 up and square overall at the interval. Brian Boulton (22.94) won 3-1 to give Cleveland the lead overall for the first time, but Tyne & Wear fought back to take the next two. John Peoples lost 3-1 and Neil Young (20.86) lost 3-1. The next three went to Cleveland as Tony Embleton (23.62) won 3-1, Phil MacKay (24.35) won 3-1 and Charlie Copeland (25.15) won a great game 3-2. Final score was 8-4 to Cleveland and 10-8 overnight.

Cleveland Man of the Match: Terry Ferguson

Sunday started with the Ladies A who got off to a terrible start with Jackie Allison (16.94) losing 3-2 and Vee Page (18.10) also losing 3-2 while Rhonda Page (13.75) failed to halt the slide, losing 3-0. Pat A Smith (15.66) started the fight-back when she won 3-2. Jean Hagan (20.05) won 3-1 and Babs Evans (18.11) won 3-0, to make the final score 3-3. Which meant a nice lead to take into the Men's A.

Cleveland Lady of the Match: Jean Hagan

Mick Whittaker (24.38) lost a very close match 3-2, Glenn Moody (27.75) won 3-1, but then Chris Hornby (22.36) lost 3-1, Cleveland took the next five matches, Gary Stephens (25.47) won 3-0, Simon Craven (25.59) won 3-1, Tim Burke (23.74) won 3-1, Mark Muckian (22.73) won 3-1 and Mark Eccles (26.54) also won 3-1. Jimmy Dunlop (25.73) was unlucky to come up against their man of the match and lost 3-0 before Glen Durrant (27.13) won 3-1, Joe Nicholson (25.83) lost 3-1 (double trouble). Cleveland took the final match when Paul Winspear (24.64) won 3-0, giving a final score of 8-4 to Cleveland, and an overall win of 21, plus three win bonus points giving them a 24-15.

Willington League

The Victoria Club stormed to the top of the table after they only dropped two points to the visiting Willington Cottles, who dropped from second to third position. Micky Featherstone was the star for the Victoria with an 11 dart checkout with scores of 140, 125, 140 and a 96 finish. Teammates, Ian Breen and Bobby Hall both hit maximums.

The Victoria Club are now four points clear of Willington Burn, who were without a game, while Willington Cottles are a further six points behind in third spot.

National CIU Singles Championship

Phil Nixon of Ferryhill Club travelled to Sheffield to take on Shaun Bradley in the quarter finals and in the first leg hit an unbelievable nine dart finish with a classic run of two maximums, treble 17, treble 18 and double 18. Phil went on to take the second leg but the realisation of his tremendous feat in the first leg seemed to set in and Bradley took the final three legs with checkouts of 103, 121 and 126.

Tow Law Bass League

Tow Law Rose and Crown took four valuable points from the visiting Esh Football Club to prevent them narrowing the gap on Billy Row Club at the top, while Tow Law Cattle Mart moved into second place following their big win at Tow Law Station.

The leading individual scorers were S McGrath and J Mellis 140 each for the New Market B, N Saville 140 for McKennas, T Hauxwell 140 for the Station and T Cairns 140 for the Royal Oak.

Crook Queen's Head extended their lead at the top of the table to four points with a good win at the Royal Sun. Croft Social Club B are in second place seven points ahead of their A team and one ahead of the Queen's Head in the captains league.

The leading individual scorers were Alice Samuels 140 and Freda Gelson 120 for Croft A, Joanne Moore 134 and Alison Fairhurst 101 for Croft B, Ruby Boughey 121 and Jackie Hutchinson 108 for the Queen's Head and Caroline Turnbull 109 for the Royal Sun.

Wear Valley Ladies

Crook Three Blue Bells came within one point of a whitewash victory for the third time when they beat the visiting Crook Crown Hotel to go top. The Golden Fleece did well to leave the Royal Sun with an odd point victory. The leading individual scorers were Irene Clark 140 for the Coach and Horses, Tracey Thompson 134 for the Royal Sun, Linda Heathcoat 132 and Corrinne Heslop 119 for the Golden Fleece, Kim Pritchard 121 for the Mill House.

Crook Ladies

Crook Queen's Head moved up to share third place in the table with The Victoria Club after they edged through to an odd point victory at the Victoria. Crook Coach and Horses, who were without a match, lead the table by 24 points, whilse the Tow Law New Market B are six points ahead of the third placed teams.

Beverley Hutchinson of Crook Queen's Head became the second player this season to hit a full house on the 19s when she recorded 171.
