ARTIST Lionel Playford is taking former miners from the pit villages of County Durham on a trip down memory lane.
Mr Playford, who is artist-in-residence at the Volante factory, Trimdon village, has set up a display of more than 25 of his paintings in Trimdon Labour Club.
Many are of the Volante factory in Trimdon, but others are of the now defunct Easington Colliery, which drew many of its miners from the Trimdon area.
Mr Playford, whose work is on show until Christmas, sketched and photographed the dismantling of the colliery in 1996.
He said: "This display is really for the men who use the labour club and who were hit hard by the closure of the pit, but anyone is welcome to have a look round.
The Newcastle-born painter has been artist-in-residence at Volante for almost a year and has worked with local schools to produce some of his work. His stint in the village has been sponsored by Sedgefield Borough Council, Year of the Artist, Arts and Business and the Sponsors' Club
