THE UK's youngest heart transplant patient cut the ribbon to open an expanding business's new premises in Chester-le-Street this week.

Kaylee Davidson, who had the operation when she was five months old and is now 13, opened Excaliber IT Systems, in Front Street.

Karen Dawson, of Excaliber, said: "We have expanded our business in Chester-le-Street, and we wanted someone special to open our new retail premises. As Kaylee is my niece, she was the perfect local celebrity."

The company took the opportunity to pledge its support for a local charity that supports people like Kaylee.

Heart Transplant Families Together is managed and run by parents whose children have had heart transplants.

Carol Davidson, Kaylee's mother and charity chairman, said: "We appreciate all of the help and donations, and it's great to see a local business get involved."

Excaliber has organised a raffle to raise money for the charity, with telephones, printers and collectable teddy bears up for grabs. Tickets are available from Excaliber, in Front Street, and the draw will be made on December 18.
