STOCKTON and Billingham College is joining a national adult learner campaign to encourage people to take the first step into life-long learning.

The college is offering a range of courses as part of the Sign Up Now campaign.

People who want to train for a specific job, update their skills, or move back into education are encouraged to visit the college to see what it has to has to offer.

Spokeswoman Christine Morgan said: "Many people are often reluctant to return to education.

"They don't know what to expect or realise that there is help available to ensure they choose the right course.

"All our programmes offer the advantage of a local venue, and small, informal, friendly group-learning with other adults.

"If you are unsure about what course to study, our information and guidance staff can not only give you information about the courses, but provide advice on the best route for you in relation to qualifications, career progression, or to help you plan your route back into work."

Courses can be free if a person is unemployed, and on benefits.

The Five Lamps Organisations, a community group in Thornaby, is giving people the chance to sign up for its range of courses on January 4, from 9am to 1pm.
