A HOUSING association wants to build pensioners' bungalows on a Darlington park.

Railway Housing Association wants to develop land at Hunden's Park, Hunden's Lane.

It will be a second phase of development on the land, because the association is already building homes on the site.

Members of Darlington Borough Council's cabinet will be told today that a planning application has been submitted to build a further 25 bungalows for elderly people.

If the development is approved - and the council is in favour of the plan - it would result in the nearby bowling green being relocated at the Eastbourne Sports Complex.

The authority believes the bowlers would benefit from the security and ease of management offered by the complex.

It would cost the council £126,000 to build a new bowling green and clubhouse at the Eastbourne Sports Complex, but that would be offset by the authority being able to raise about £250,000 from the sale of the land for housing.

It is envisaged that the bowling club will continue to run during the development of phase two of the development, but council officers say it will be essential that a replacement green is constructed, at the earlier opportunity, after the sale of the land
