A STAR-studded quilt is all set to raise hundreds of pounds for the Cancer Research Campaign.

Months ago, quilters from in and around Durham City were invited to submit their own individual patchwork squares.

A total of 49 enthusiasts agreed to take part and their separate works - all featuring star designs - have been pieced together to form a magnificent king-sized quilt.

Even the fabric used will help to raise money, as the material has all come from Hoffman's Quilt for a Cure range, which donates a percentage of its profits to aid the fight against breast cancer.

Project coordinator Gillian Banks said: "Quilting is a traditional craft in the North-East and we are delighted to continue this tradition while raising money for a worthy cause.''

The beautiful result of all the months of hard work will be raffled to raise money for the charity.

The quilt will eventually go on show at Durham Community Centre's Shakespeare Hall on July 28.

All proceeds will go to The Cancer Research Campaign. Raffle tickets will be available from February to July, obtained from Mary Storr on 0191-386 3282.
