CARING pupils were due to be treated to a full McDonalds breakfast instead of their early morning lesson this week.
Youngsters from The Grove Primary school in Consett were being given the treat this Friday for completing the Junior Great North Run last October.
The 14 children, all aged between seven and 11, ran three miles in 30 minutes with teacher Giovanna Rossi to raise £500 for Cancer Research. Giovanna explained that McDonalds in Consett had offered to give breakfast to the children as a reward.
She said: "Most of the children who ran last year also ran in 1999 and raised money for a local hospice. They were keen to compete again in 2000 and they had lots of encouragement on the day from parents.
"Everyone seemed very willing to support The Cancer Research Campaign and we are really thrilled with the amount the children managed to raise."
The children who completed the run were David Atherton, Beth Atherton, Lee Bramley, Emma Bramley, Amy Cook, Liam Dempsey, Anthony Sands, Lisa Wyatt, Connor Etheridge, Christy Davison, Lainey Davison, Ryan O'Neil, Sharon Bell and Robert Flannagan
