POLICE investigating the murder of North-East student Sara Cameron have released new images in a bid to track down her killer.

The pictures are video-stills of people using the Tyneside Metro on Thursday April 20 - the night before Sara's body was found in a field near Earsdon, on North Tyneside.

The 23-year-old Finnish-born student was due to leave for a work placement with the Sydney Olympics Committee, in Australia, when she was attacked and suffocated.

Since the investigation started last April, police have visited nearly 3,500 homes and carried out DNA screening of more than 2,500 men.

Detective Superintendent Steve Bolam, who is leading the investigation, said last night: "One of our lines of inquiry focuses on the activity in and around the Metro system, in Newcastle and the coast, the night before Good Friday last year.

"That's why it is important to trace everyone possible, even if they themselves think they have nothing to add to the inquiry."

The images include a man seen at Whitley Bay Metro station at 7.35pm, who boarded the same train which Sara caught into Newcastle that night. He was wearing a red jacket with distinctive black and white strips across the back and shoulders.

There were also two sets of young men making their way through Monument station shortly before 11.30pm.

Both groups are believed to have caught the same train which Sara caught to Shiremoor at about midnight.

A young man with blond hair also caught this train at about midnight.

Sara's father, Roy Cameron, said; "I would appeal to anyone with any information to come forward. They could be holding vital clues and by their silence they are building a wall around the killer."

Anyone with information has been asked to call 0191-214 6555.
