THE family of a man killed on a Mediterranean holiday are holding a charity fun day to raise funds for the legal battle with Greek authorities.

Chris Rochester, 24, died in a Rhodes hospital after plunging 40ft from a hotel balcony in June last year.

A post-mortem examination carried out after the body was flown back to the UK revealed one of his kidneys was missing.

But after the organ eventually turned up, DNA tests paid for by the family proved it did not belong to Chris.

Now, ten months after his death, his family are still waiting for the resumption of his inquest, while investigations are made in Greece.

Next Saturday's fun day, to be held at Chester-le-Street's Hermitage School, County Durham, will help the family raise cash for potential legal action in the future.

Mother Pam Cummings, of Chester-le-Street, is hoping for a large turnout.

She said: "We are still waiting for the date of the inquest and we still have not had a death certificate from the Greek authorities.

"Once the inquest is over we will start thinking about legal proceedings on the grounds of negligence.

"I know Chris had a lot of friends and he was well known in the town, so hopefully plenty will come along for the fun."

The fun day, which starts at 11am on Saturday, April 28, will include a giant bungee jump display including about 60 jumpers, drag queen football, a beer tent and the chance to win Newcastle United tickets and a Fiat Punto donated by JMD Motors of Chester-le-Street.

All in aid of the Christopher Rochester Trust Fund, the day will also include children's rides, hot and cold food and a bouncy castle.
