THIEVES towed away a £10,000 asbestos decontamination caravan from a factory in Crook.

The 14ft white glass-fibre unit, described as "a shower on wheels" resembles a catering caravan. It has a Thermac logo on the side and is used by workmen to clean up after they have been in contact with asbestos.

It was taken from Metalink, in Prospect Road, between 6pm on Tuesday and 8am yesterday. Also missing are two respirators worth £1,600 and a £450 smoke generator.

Detective Sergeant Kieran Reed, of Crook police, appealed for anyone with information to contact (01388) 762011.
