AN ASIAN family has been left deeply upset after being subjected to a torrent of racial abuse at their home.
Police are trying to trace the culprit, who gave Nazi-type salutes as he insulted the family in the Stanley area, on Saturday, May 6, at 8.45pm.
Detective Constable Shaun Bailey said: "The family were in their home when the man with a bulldog-type dog started shouting racial abuse at them.
"When one of them went to investigate, they were confronted by the man who showed a Nazi-style salute and continued to shout abuse of a racial nature at them.
"He was in front of their house for about ten minutes, and his behaviour provoked some children in the area to start throwing things at the house.
"The victims, who have lived in the area for 20 years, were very upset and say it is the worst incident of racial abuse they have experienced.
"This kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable and we are appealing for information to help us trace this man."
The culprit has been described as 5ft 3in, of medium build, with short, dark brown hair. He was wearing a red football strip.
Anyone with information has been asked to call Det Con Bailey on (01207) 504204, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
