EFFORTS to tackle unemployment in a community are proving successful according to a project's latest figures.
Pennywell Community Business, Sunderland, has helped 465 people gain full-time employment in the past year through its job creation scheme, and management is celebrating the figure which is up on the previous 12 months.
Project general manager John Tulip said: "This demonstrates just how hard everyone is working to place local people into local jobs.
Pennywell Community Business' Job Linkage service secured 137 of the jobs. The service has two centres at Grindon and on Hylton Road.
The centres are funded by the Single Regeneration Budget and European Social Fund.
