DURHAM County Council has revamped its website to bring it even closer to local people.

The site, www.durham.gov, which is acknowledged as one of the best public sector sites in the country, has been redesigned after extensive consultation with users.

Anyone who wants to advertise an event in the local community can add it to the website's What's On pages.

Chris Collins, the council's head of information technology, said public input had been crucial in updating the website.

He said: "There is now a quick search box on the banner which searches the whole site for the word entered, and we will shortly be adding frequently asked questions.

"The most visited sections of the website, including the County Record Office, now have a direct link on the homepage."

The website is an important part of the county council's Electronic Government Strategy and is constantly being expanded. The council will soon be including information based on life episodes such as moving home and having a baby' to tie in with the new Government website www.ukonline.gov.uk

Despite the revamp, work will continue to improve the site.

The feedback option allows the public to give comments and suggestions.
