MRS Evelyn Smith was given two goose eggs for her husband's breakfast but, as he did not fancy eating them, she put them into her fridge where they stayed for two days.

Then she mentioned them to friend Mrs Rose Wilkin, who said she would take the eggs off her hands.

The eggs went back to Village Farm, Brompton on Swale, where they spent the rest of the day on the kitchen table.

Mrs Wilkin had some broody bantams, so she put the eggs under them to see what would happen.

Much to her surprise, they hatched out.

Unfortunately the three banties involved were very keen on the two goslings and in their eagerness to gain possession, one of the little ones was squashed.

However, one has survived and is now being looked after by a very protective mum.
