TWO soccer pundits have kicked off a recycling scheme which they hope will net funds for a hospice appeal.

Boro TV stars Bernie Slaven and Alastair Brownlee yesterday launched a recycling scheme devised by can manufacturers, Alcan.

For every kilogramme of aluminium drink cans brought to one of its yellow vans on a visit to a supermarket car park, Alcan will pay 45p. There are approximately 65 cans to a kilo.

The company has teamed up with the Butterwick Children's Hospice at Stockton, and recyclers will be given the choice of keeping the money or making a donation to the charity. There will also be regional draws for football tickets and a family holiday to Barcelona.

A donation will be made to the hospice appeal after a Bootleg Bee Gees tribute concert at the Marton Hotel and Country Club, Middlesbrough, on September 13
