Worthington CIU Summer League - Ferryhill moved to the top of a very close Second Division after they only dropped one point on their visit to Crook Belle Vue.

Glyn Toas, Neil Redfearn, Ian Roddam and Les Lewis won for the visitors with Gordon Sample taking Belle Vue's only point.

Sherburn Village moved up to share the top spot with Ferryhill following their home win over fellow challengers, Langley Park, who now slip into third place, where they share the same number of points as Brandon and Meadowfield. Sherburn took the first four points through Alan Bower, Peter McGowan, John Bower and Scott Mallaburn before Ray Coates scored the Park's lone point.

Brandon moved level on points with their hosts at Meadowfield and Langley Park after they took victory in the decider. Craig Hughes and Malcolm Hughes won for Meadowfield with Colin Goodrick and John Middleton levelling. In the decider, Brandon's Brian Graham beat John Jackson.

At the top of the First Division, Stanley Central took two vital points on their visit to Old Shildon, who have now slipped six points behind the leaders, Wheatley Hill A. Walter Cornell and Frank Foster won for the Central, while Old Shildon went to victory with wins from Frank Nicholson, Michael Pratt with a 38 break and Charlie Blake with breaks of 35 and 27.

Wheatley Hill A whitewashed their B team to edge further away from Old Shildon with wins from Ronnie Peacock, Dave Walker, Dennis Clish, Alan Hall and Jack Wright.

Spennymoor A lifted themselves from the foot of the First Division with an odd point home win over Fishburn A, who remain in third place but their title challenge has been severely dented. The Moors took the first three points through Jim Wilson, Paul Biddle and Keith Welsh, while the visitors came back with wins from Brian Quest and John Carter.

After taking the first frame through Michael Hewitt at Witton Gilbert, Newton Aycliffe faded as the home side took over with wins from Willis Joynes, John Rooney senior, Ian Kerr and John Rooney junior. Following this result, Aycliffe stay in fourth place, one point ahead of Witton Gilbert.

Spennymoor B won a vital decider in the clash of the top teams in the Third Division. Fishburn B were the hosts and went down in the first two frames to Micky Anderson and Phil Wilson. However George Whitelock and Alan Wilson squared the match but the Moors Kurt McCormack beat Michael Bell in the decider.

Alf Edwards played a captain's part for Tow Law as he took the only point at home to Crowtrees with a spectacular win. However the visitors had wins from Sonny Hann, Keith McLauchlan, Peter Laverick and Sean Johnston to move up to share second place in the Third Division with Fishburn B and West Auckland, who have a match in hand.

Lawrence Jones of Leeholme A lifted the highest break in the Third Division to 46 when he helped his side beat the Leeholme B team for the loss of only one point. The other A team winners were Tony Clish, Barry Shaw and Ray Gill with John Taylor taking the only point for the B team.

A much-changed Willington team went down by the odd point at home to Shotton Palms. Gordon Parkin and Stan Bennett took points for the home side with Jimmy Evans, Paul Hickman and John Armstrong taking the Palms to victory.

Durham City managed only their second win of the season when they piipped the visiting Newhouse A in the decider. Gary Ward and Michael pratt put the City ahead but Steve Mountain and John Maddox squared the match. In the decider, Durham's Eric Wright beat Jimmy Hassen.

Sacriston took the first and last frame on their visit to Hunwick with wins from Willy Nixon and Gary Barton. However the home side had wins from Barry Fleming, John Bate and Arnold Fleming to see them to victory.

South West Durham Association

Hopetown clinched the Championship after only dropping one point to the visiting Old Shildon team, who have been relegated. Darlington Cricket Club could have landed the runners-up spot if they had made a whitewash win at Darlington Snooker Club A, but the home side took three points to take the runners-up spot. Bishop Auckland Cricket Club joined Old Shildon into the Second Division after they only picked up one point at Barnard Castle Folly's.

A play off is necessary for the Second Division title between Ferryhill and Barnard Castle Glaxo. Ferryhill dropped a vital point at home to Northgate, who could have been among the trophies with a better result, while Glaxo whitewashed the visiting Shildon Elm Road, who could have tied for the title if the result had been reversed.
