Wheatley Hill A virtually wrote their name on the Championship trophy after beating their nearest rivals, the visiting Old Shildon team for the loss of only one point. The Hill started in good form with Dean Bryden putting in a 34 break but he found Frank Nicholson in excellent form and he made up the deficit to take the first frame for Old Shildon.

However from that point the home side took over with Ronnie Peacock and Dave Walker both making big wins. Jack Wright followed with a black ball success and Dennis Clish completed a fine result for Wheatley Hill, who are now nine points clear of their rivals.

Fishburn A slipped up at home to Shotton Palms, who took revenge for their recent defeat in the team Knock-out Cup with an odd point victory. The visitors took the first three frames through Barry Hall, John Armstrong and Paul Hickman, before John griffin steadied the home ship with a 32 break and Charlie Hirst made the score respectable by taking the final frame.

Newton Aycliffe moved up to share third place with Fishburn A, eight points adrift of Old Shildon, after they beat the visiting Wheatley Hill B by the odd point. John Briddick, Michael Hewitt and Stuart Neil with a 31 break won for Aycliffe with Jock Frost and Tony Ellison replying.

Spennymoor A continued their tough fight to avoid relegation with an odd point home win over Witton Gilbert. Paul Biddle, Dennis Dodd and Jim Wilson won for the Moors with Ian Renwick and Ray Coatman replying.

Stanley Central took the first and last frames through Jim Dufton and Walter Cornell at home to Willington, who went to victory with wins from Arthur Goldsborough, Stan Bennett and Jeremy Martin.

Ferryhill share the top spot in the Second Division after they beat the visiting Meadowfield by the odd point. The home side had wins from Ian Roddam, Nigel Redfearn and Glyn Toas with Norman Smith and Ian Hodgson taking points for the visitors, who now lie fifth in the Second Division but are only three points behind the joint leaders.

Langley Park moved up to share the top spot in the Second Division with Ferryhill after they comprehensively beat the visiting Durham City with wins from Raymond Coates, Paul Nord, Kevin Keers, Stephen Coates and Robert Roche.

Brandon moved into third place in the Second Division when they pushed the visiting Sherburn Village a point behind them. Only Alan Greener managed a point for the visitors, whilst Brian Graham, Kevin Sample, Colin Goodrick and John Hall scored for the home side.

In a battle to avoid relegation from the Second Division, Newhouse B entertained Crook Belle Vue and edged through to an odd point win. The home side had points from Alan McCluskey, John O'Driscoll and David Jackson, whilst John Warriner and Harold Lomax, with a 35 break, won for Belle Vue.

Spennymoor B moved nine points clear at the top of the Third Division after they only dropped one point at Sacriston, who had Gary Barton as their only winner. The Moors points came from Alan Rowell, Kurt McCormack, Phil Wilson and Karl McCormack.

Fishburn B moved into second place in the Third Division when they won in the decider at Crowtrees, who slipped into joint third place. Sean Johnston put the home side ahead with George Whitelock levelling. John Hall restored Crowtrees lead only to see Winston Hodgson square the match. In the decider, Fishburn's Wayne Oliver beat Sonny Hann on the black.

West Auckland also lost ground in their promotion bid when they failed at Hunwick in the decider. Kelvin Fletcher put in a 37 break to give West a great start but then Tom Ward and Trevor Lomax moved the home side ahead. Andrew Dent squared the match in the fourth but then Hunwick's Des Mason beat Alex Robson in the decider.

Tow Law recorded a rare victory when they visited Leeholme A, who went ahead through Ray Gill. However Doug Watson and Tommy Williams moved the Lawyers in front only to see Lawrence Jones square the match. In the decider Charlie Donaghy took the Lawyers to victory by beating Carl Brown.

South West Durham Association

Ithe semi-finals of the Team Knock-out Cup the First Division winners, Hopetown and the runners-up, Darlington Snooker Club A both reached the Final despite giving away points start.

Hopetown came through the semi-final with a home victory over Albert Hill, who finished equal fourth in the First Division, in the tie played at Darlington Snooker Club.

In the tie played at Shildon Elm Road, Darlington Snooker Club A beat Barnard Castle Folly's, who had also finished equal fourth in the Fist Division.
