FIREFIGHTING equipment from the Wilton International site on Teesside is being used to improve the fire service in Africa.
Enron, which provides the services and utilities on one of Europe's largest petrochemical complexes, is donating five sets of breathing apparatus, 20 ten-minute escape sets, five fire kits, foam making equipment and firefighting hose nozzles to help the fire service in Zambia.
Kevin Westwood, of Enron's asset protection and logistics team, said: "We heard about the need for equipment in Zambia from colleagues in Yorkshire and decided that any serviceable kit which was due to be replaced could be donated.
"Firefighters all over the world face similar challenges. We hope our donation will help our colleagues in Africa meet them with more confidence and back up in the future."
