A MAN whose decomposed remains were discovered in woodland died from hanging, a post-mortem examination established late yesterday.
But the identity of the body was still a mystery last night despite a team of police officers working on the case.
The remains were found on Wednesday by a man who was looking for his cat, near Bilton, on the outskirts of Harrogate.
He was searching through undergrowth in woodland when he found the body.
Forensic experts conducted an examination of the scene and house-to-house inquiries were carried out.
The body was badly decomposed. An autopsy by a Home Office pathologist established it was a man who had died from hanging.
At the time of his death, the man was wearing light-coloured Puma socks, Nike trainers, dark Adidas tracksuit bottoms, perhaps three-quarter length, and a long-sleeved fleece top with the words Green Coast on the front left side.
A police spokesman said last night: "The death is not being treated as suspicious."
