A MUSEUM could be built in Marske thanks to the donation of a grade II listed building by a local man.
Jack Anderson died in May and bequeathed the 17th century grade II listed Winkies Castle, on the High Street, to Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, along with a collection of historical objects from Marske and the surrounding area. The donation was made on the understanding that the castle was turned into a museum.
The castle is probably the oldest building in Marske and has a timber cruck frame. Mr Anderson filled it with a huge collection of items of local history and opened it up to visitors on an irregular basis.
At the council's Executive meeting on Tuesday, it was decided to accept Mr Anderson's offer and maintain the castle as a museum
