A project to capture the work of a fishing community on canvas has been given a £10,000 boost.
The grant, from Yorkshire Arts, will help to launch Scarborough Art Gallery's Fisherman's Choice exhibition.
Work on the project is due to get under way shortly and museum bosses will be working with people from the town's fishing industry on a range of issues, including the selection of art from Scarborough's own collections and from other galleries.
The gallery's curator of art, Helen Watson, said: "Scarborough's rich collection of maritime paintings and seascapes is the starting point for the project, but artists often romanticise the sea and we thought it would be fascinating for our visitors if we could have the viewpoint of fishermen and their families."
The project is part of Scarborough Borough Council's new Access and Lifelong Learning scheme, which is aiming to attract people who do not usually visit museums and galleries
