A MAN was left semi-conscious on his driveway after being set upon by three men.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault, which took place in Netherfields, Middlesbrough, at 8.15pm on Wednesday, near Fullbeck House.
The men approached the 40-year-old and began attacking him, leaving him badly injured on his drive.
The victim was taken to Middlesbrough General Hospital suffering from head wounds, fractured ribs, a broken jaw and bruises.
A spokeswoman from Cleveland Police said: "Officers have said there was no apparent reason for the attack and that it was a case of sheer violence."
Police have carried out house to house inquiries in the area.
