AFTER three decades of pushing pedals, home care assistant Carol Warley has finally decided to hang up her bicycle clips.

Carol, who celebrated her 65th birthday this week, has always used a bike to get around her patch in the Easingwold area of North Yorkshire.

She's used them so much that in the past 30 years she has worn out ten machines.

She has cycled into Easingwold from her home five miles away at Stillington at least twice a week and also used her bike to visit her clients during her five-day working week.

Since she started working as a home care assistant in 1971 she has clocked up tens of thousands of miles.

"I'll miss the people and the work very much - but not the weekend rotas in the winter on my bike," said Mrs Warley.

"I've seen a lot of changes in my job over the years, all for the better. I've enjoyed working as part of a team and alongside the district nurses when needed."

Colleagues are planning a retirement party for Mrs Warley next month. In the meantime, she is looking forward to spending more time with her grandchildren - although she still plans regular bike trips to Easingwold.
