ARTIST Wendy Thompson has won an important commission from Darlington Building Society.

She received her commission, to paint the society in its local environment in a contemporary style, following an exhibition of her work at the "Art for Business" Sponsors Club at the ARC in Stockton.

Wendy's work is on display at Darlington Building Society's offices in Sentinel House. It will shortly be moved to Darlington Arts Centre.

Wendy, of Stockton, studied at Cleveland College of Art and Design, before starting a business, Natural Artlines, in 1999.

Commenting on the finished commission, Darlington Building Society chief executive, Peter Rowley, said: "The society has always been a major supporter of local arts and regional initiatives.

"I am delighted that we have been able to support a talented young artist who has depicted the society in such a stunning and imaginative way. Staff at the society were so impressed with Wendy's work that we have decided to incorporate it into a Christmas card and the annual report and accounts for 2001."
