Work on road suspended

Road works in Haughton Road, Darlington, have been suspended until February 4.

The works, which were recently blamed by a Darlington taxi driver for traffic congestion problems in the area, are being carried out by Transco.

NEW ATM: Shell UK is hoping to install an automated teller machine at its garage in Woodland Road, Darlington. The proposal has been submitted as a planning application, with a related proposal for illuminated signs, to Darlington Borough Council's development and environment department.

PANTO TIME: Hurworth Community Association's pantomime, The Wonderful Story of Mother Goose, will run at Hurworth Grange Community Centre on January 10, 11 and 12. Tickets, available from the Grange, cost £5, £3.50 for concessions and £14 for family tickets covering two adults and two children. Evening performances start at 7.30pm,with a matinee at 2pm on the Sunday.

CHURCH PARTY: St Mark's Church, North Road, Darlington, is holding a buffet party at the vicarage on January 4, at 6.30pm, for anybody who is involved in the work of the church.

HISTORY TOUR: A walk around some of Darlington's historic homes, starting at the gates of the ED Walker Homes, Coniscliffe Road, on Sunday, at 1.45pm, will be led by local historian George Flynn.

DANCE DATE: The Northern Youth Dance Company will visit Darlington for a show at the Arts Centre, in Vane Terrace, on January 26. Tickets are available on (01325) 486555.

BINGO RETURNS: Monthly bingo nights, cancelled because of renovations to St Mark's Church Hall, North Road, Darlington, will return on January 31, from 2pm to 3.30pm.

EPIPHANY PARTY: St James the Great Church, Albert Hill, Darlington, holds its parish epiphany party in the church hall on January 4, at 7.30pm, after 7pm Mass. The evening includes a buffet, bar, tombola and entertainment.

EXTENSION SCHEME: A planning application seeking permission for a two-storey extension at 27 Eden Crest, Gainford, has been received by Teesdale District Council.
