POLICE fear a bogus company could be targeting elderly people by calling them up and asking for credit card details after telling them they have won £1m.
The company, which calls itself Pacific Coast International, rings elderly people at home and tells them they have won a jackpot prize of £1m.
In exchange for the money, the company asks for credit card details so that £400 can be taken from their accounts.
So far police in Darlington have received three complaints about the company, but officers believe there may be more people who have been contacted.
Det Sgt Alec Francis of Darlington Police, said all complainants have reported a man with an American accent making the call.
He said: "So far a crime has not been committed because the people targeted have been suspicious and contacted us.
Anyone who receives a similar call is asked to contact DS Francis on (01325) 742108.
