Catterick stages the last day's racing in the north in 2001 and the region's first fixture of 2002 with the course's traditional two-day meeting on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

The action on New Year's Eve is scheduled to begin at 12.40 and features The Goathland Handicap Chase (extended three miles and one furlong) and The Zetland Novices' Handicap Chase (two miles and three furlongs).

The Samaritans Silver & Gold Maiden Hurdle, over two miles, draws attention to the work of the Samaritans of Northallerton and the Dales, as they embark upon one of their busiest times of the year.

The winning connections will receive solid gold watches to represent the maxim that 'silence is golden' and to emphasise that the Samaritans are willing to listen to people with seemingly insurmountable problems every day of the year.

Racing on New Year's Day starts at 12.50, the highlights being The Tote Exacta Handicap Hurdle over two miles and The Hans Christian Andersen Handicap Chase (two miles and three furlongs).

Musical entertainment on New Year's Eve is provided by The Tom Napper Irish Duo, while it's the turn of The Tees Valley Jazzmen on New Year's Day.

The afternoon's racecard contains a special competition for racegoers, the prizes for which includes membership for two at Catterick in 2002, badges for Great Yorkshire Chase Day at Doncaster in January and Zetland Gold Cup Day at Redcar in May.
