A MAN appeared in court yesterday after school staff called in police to investigate allegations of widespread use of cannabis among pupils.
Gavin William Quarrie, 20, was remanded on bail by magistrates, accused of supplying cannabis at Upper Nidderdale High School and Community College, Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire, on September 17.
Mr Quarrie, of Rays Farm, Smelthouses, Summerbridge, near Harrogate, who also faces a charge of cannabis possession, was told by presiding magistrate John Render that the case would have to be tried by a judge and jury.
The hearing at Harrogate magistrates' court was adjourned until February 7, when it is expected Mr Quarrie will be committed to York Crown Court, for trial.
