DARLINGTON are targeting former Arsenal striker Christopher Wreh as manager Tommy Taylor bids to pull-off a transfer coup.

Liberian Wreh won a Premiership and FA Cup double with the Gunners, appearing as a substitute in the FA Cup Final 2-0 victory over Newcastle in 1998 before leaving Highbury a year ago.

Taylor admitted last week he was chasing a player from a Scottish club and speaking to The Northern Echo last night, he said: "I had a phone call from St Mirren about Wreh and their manager told me he'd get the lad to ring me at 3pm, but he still hasn't rang me yet.

"I don't know if it'd be a permanent deal or not, I don't even know if he's going to come on loan yet!"

"We'll just have to wait and see, but he'd be a great player for us to have in the Third Division."

Wreh, 26, was taken to Arsenal from Monaco in 1997 by Arsene Wenger for £300,000, scoring five goals for the Gunners during his 47 appearances, 28 of which were as a substitute.

Before swapping Arsenal for Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia last December, Wreh, who is the cousin of Liberian legend George Weah, spent time on loan at AEK Athens, Birmingham City and FC Den Bosch but moved to St Mirren in September after just eight months with Al Hilal.

He has failed to score in four substitute appearance north of the border this season for the Scottish Division One side who currently lie third in the table.

Last February Quakers came very close to signing former Nigerian international striker Daniel Amokachi.

Despite Quakers being "90 per cent certain" of his signature, the deal fell through at the last minute.

Meanwhile, Oldham's Canadian striker Carlo Corazzin won't be coming to Feethams as he's out injured for a month with a hernia.
