AN award has been presented to Stockton Borough Council for its efficiency at saving energy.
The accolade, given by the National Energy Accreditation Scheme, recognises the council's efforts to help the environment by promoting energy-saving methods in its offices, leisure centres and schools.
Councillor David Coleman, deputy leader of the council, said: "This award, and the good practice it recognises, is good news for the staff and pupils in our schools, the staff and users of our leisure centres and for residents across the borough.
"My congratulations go to everyone who has helped Stockton to gain it."
The accreditation, which Stockton will retain for three years, means the council's energy management section will be able to swap examples of good practice with other accredited organisations, such as British Telecom and Marks and Spencer
