Tow Law Bass

Cornsay Royal Oak forgot their bottom place in the table when they visited Tow Law New Market B and put up a good fighting performance before going down by just three points. The trebles were shared and then the New Market were able to open out a four points gap when they had singles wins from Stephen Umpelby, Doris Elsbury, Phil Spencer and Shaun McGrath. The Oak fought back with wins from Colin Close and John Close, who then went on to combine their skills to take the first doubles point. However the home side recovered their composure and went on to take the last two doubles through Susan Humble with Doris Elsbury and Shaun McGrath with Gavin Tennant. The captain's game proved to be a battle of the landlords with the New Market's Phil Spencer beating Ian Truby.

Newhouse Club lead the table by 12 points from Esh Stag's Head, who have a match in hand. Tow Law New Market A are eight points adrift of the Stag's Head and have two matches in hand of Newhouse Club.

Willington League

Arthur Burnham of Willington Cottles lifted the best check-out score to 143 when he helped his team to a very creditable draw at third placed, Hunwick Quarry Burn. The home side are now just one point behind the former leaders, the Prospect Club. However there are new leaders after Willington Black Horse Tavern moved two points clear following their big win at Willington Lion and Unicorn.

The Lion and Unicorn only managed Kevin Hill as a singles winner, whilst the visiting Black Horse Tavern had singles wins from Donald Young, Aynsley Rainbow, Harold Farrar, Kevin Bake and Joe Davies. The home side then took the first doubles through Brian Whitfield and Michael Pickering but the visitors strengthened their position with wins for Davey Hawkins with Kevin Bake and Aynsley Rainbow with Harold Farrar. Aynsley Rainbow completed a cracking night when he beat the Unicorn's Kevin Hill in the captain's game.

Tow Law New Market B edged a further point ahead of Crook Queen's Head in the race for the runners-up spot in the table after they only dropped two points to the visiting Crook Olde Horse Shoe, whilst the Queen's dropped three points on their visit to Crook Travellers Rest. However both have given up the hope of catching the leaders, Crook Coach and Horses, who are 58 points ahead. The New Market now lead the Queen's Head by six points.
