THE Army is establishing a temporary recruiting office, in Consett, as part of a recruitment drive.
The office, which will be in the precinct in Middle Street at the junction with Wesley Street, will be staffed by a team of recruitment officials who will be answering questions about what life is like in the Army.
As well as being at the new site from Monday for two weeks, recruitment officials will also be out and about in the town centre.
The Army has 15,000 vacancies, with recruits earning up to £198 a week when they join.
Lieutenant John May, commander regional recruiting for the North-East, said: "Establishing a base in the town centre will make it even easier for local young people who might be interested in an Army career to access all the information they need."
