CONCERNS about litter left behind by camping travellers have been raised by Sedgefield borough councillor Gloria Wills.

The council's environment team had been called out to Beacon Lane, Sedgefield, at least three times in as many months to clean up after travellers, she said.

"I have also had another request only recently to clean up again after the Christmas and New Year period, which this time required a JCB to be brought in to do the job," said Coun Wills, who argued that access to the road should be restricted.

Councillor Wills is also angry at the way dog owners allow their pets to foul areas of the village, in particular on routes children take to the village school.

She wants to see residents adopting a no tolerance policy and report incidents.

"Only by assisting the borough enforcement officer, Andrew Bailey are we going to be able to make a different," she said.

"He has already served more than 25 people with a fixed penalty and many more with warnings.
