A reunion is being planned for former employees at one of the region's largest power stations.

The Wilton Power Station, near Redcar, east Cleveland, has been owned and operated by Enron Teesside Operations Limited (Etol) since 1999. Before that it was part of ICI.

In March, it will be 50 years since the first high pressure steam boiler opened and the company is having a reunion party to celebrate.

An open day is planned for Sunday, April 7, and organisers are hoping that as many old faces as possible can make it to the event, which will include a tour of the site and the station.

The station, which has not been affected by its American parent company, Enron, filing for bankruptcy, produces steam and electricity for other companies on the Wilton site, including DuPont, Huntsman and Uniqema.

In its 50 years, Wilton has been upgraded many times and is capable of generating power from a variety of sources, including oil, gas and coal. For details of the reunion, ring the direct line on (01642) 212037 by February 28.
