A FATHER and son who have appeared on the same television quiz show within 14 months of each other know exactly where they live, even if the programme makers are not so sure.

Retired storeman Mr Lou Dale, of Leeming Bar, followed his son, Steve, a former soldier, on to the Channel 4 show Fifteen to One on Wednesday, becoming the last contestant left standing and achieving joint 11th position on the finals board.

And the Dales believe their village identity is so important that in both cases it was made clear that they live in Leeming Bar when the on-screen caption writers had wanted to use the postal address of Northallerton.

Mr Steve Dale, who narrowly failed to become one of the last three contestants to fight it out when he appeared on the show in November 2000, said: "It's just such an important difference. We don't live in Northallerton itself."

His father was given two chances to audition because his wife, Norma, was ill when the first was held in York.

When the show was recorded in London he still had two of his three lifelines intact when he became one of the last three contestants. The others were gradually eliminated but there were still 13 questions left when time ran out with Mr Dale achieving 112 points.

He said: "I decided to enter just for the fun of it. It was nerve-racking."
