POSTER competition winners were joined by a host of celebrities for a prize presentation on Wednesday.

Newcastle United manager Bobby Robson and players Nolberto Solano and Warren Barton, along with actors from the children's TV series Byker Grove and Newcastle-born actress Libby Davidson, presented prizes to youngsters at the football club's Bamburgh Suite.

The children designed posters on the theme of tolerance for the Holocaust Memorial artwork competition.

The contest was organised by Newcastle United and Show Racism the Red Card, which aims to stamp out racism at football grounds.

The winner was Asha Sanderson, nine, of Westgate Hill Primary School, who received tickets for Newcastle's match with Southampton and a book token.

The 13 runners-up each received a book token and a certificate signed by the players.

The chairman of the Holocaust Memorial Day working group, councillor Nigel Todd, said: "Holocaust Memorial Day serves as a constant reminder of the extreme consequences of racial hatred and as a guide to avoiding similar horrors in the future."

The winning poster will be displayed on the Tyne and Wear Metro system in time for Holocaust Memorial Day, on Sunday.
