Thirsk Falcons
Ross McAndrew continued to show his influence in the Thirsk midfield as the Under-14s ran out convincing 8-1 winners at Brompton.
The scoreline at half time was a comfortable 5-0 as Thirsk took advantage of the considerable headwind blowing down the pitch.
The first half was really one-way football, and a spectacular overhead effort by Dixon just failed to find the net in the eighth minute.
On 14 minutes Thirsk took an inevitable lead when Watson quickly spotted the danger from a Brompton throughball, and threaded the ball through to Ovington, who took his time and slotted the ball past the Brompton keeper for 1-0.
Hogg, returning in the Thirsk net following injury, was quickly out off his line 5 minutes later to thwart a clear chance when two Brompton forwards broke through the Thirsk defence. Four goals within five minutes effectively sealed the game, the first on 22 minutes when a low Padget corner was met by Kendall, whose low shot found its way through a forest of legs and past the unsighted keeper.
Cree nodded on a high cross for Dixon to grab the third, and scored himself one minute later from a clever first-time flick on by Ovington.
The best team goal was the fifth, scored from distance by McAndrew, following excellent approach play by the Falcons midfield and front line.
Ovington could have made it six before the break, but the Brompton keeper was in the right place to make a good stop.
Matthew Parr, who scored two headers last week, came on for Thirsk just after half time, and after almost converting a low cross ten minutes into the half, won a penalty when his persistence inside the area resulted in him being brought down from behind, and Padget accepted responsibility for the spot kick to make it 6-0.
With 15 minutes left, a nice Cosgrove back heel released Parr on the left to cross for Dixon to get his second from close range.
The final Thirsk goal was McAndrew's second when he picked up the goalkeeper's clearance outside the area and put the ball into the top corner against the wind.
Brompton got a consolation goal from a last minute penalty, but only from the rebound after Hogg had made a fine save from the initial kick.
Another good all-round performance by Thirsk.

Last weekend Crook Town on the road again to play the Army Foundation College at Catterick.
They were yards quicker than Crook, they missed two good chances to take a lead. But on 32 minutes Roberts made them pay with a 25-yard drive to take Crook 0-1 at half time. Without doubt Crook looked very poor lacking a lot of the things we take for granted. As they went for the long climb up the steps the windows of the dressing room were prudently closed. The second half Crook were a very different side indeed and looked like a team again, running in 4-0 winners thanks to further goals from Freary, Wraith, Tomkins.
