ASPIRING poets, novelists and scriptwriters are invited to join creative writing sessions at the community education centre in Leyburn from next month.
The evening classes, starting on February 21, are aimed at beginners and experienced writers alike.
They are run by freelance writer and journalist, Mr Allan Tunningley, of Hardraw.
"The sessions are designed to develop writing techniques and encourage the exploration of a writer's creativity,"said Mr Tunningley.
"It doesn't matter if student has not written creatively before, the classes will help everyone pursue whatever form of writing interests them, whether it is poetry, short stories, plays, screenplays or full-length novels."
The sessions are also for those for whom writing is a hobby, as well as those who would like to have a best-seller published.
Mr Tunningley says creative writing can be a cathartic experience and may be especially helpful for people who have suffered a sense of isolation and despair because of the way the foot-and-mouth epidemic has affected their lives.
He said: "Writing about difficult experiences can be immensely therapeutic and workshop sessions where creative work is shared can be very rewarding and a great deal of fun."
The creative writing sessions start at the community education centre, Wensleydale school, Leyburn, from February 21, 6.45-9.15.
