Inquest opened and adjourned

AN inquest was opened at Teesside Coroner's Court yesterday into the death of a retired steel worker, at Middlesbrough General Hospital. Jozsef Horvath, 65, of Crosthwaite Avenue, Grove Hill, Middlesbrough, died on February 12 after being transferred to Middlesbrough General Hospital from the James Cook University Hospital. Coroner Michael Sheffield adjourned the proceedings for further inquiries.

Witness appeal: A 34-year-old cyclist died in the early hours of yesterday after being involved in an accident with a light good vehicle. The incident took place on the A19 southbound near to the A689 interchange at Wolviston at 3.15am. Raymond Hatfield, of Millbank Road, Hartlepool, died after suffering serious head injuries. Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact (01642) 301558.

ILLUSTRATED TALK: Rambling Around Wharfedale is the title of an illustrated talk to be given to the Redcar Lecture Society by David Coates today in the United Reformed Church, Station Road, at 7.30pm. Admission is £1.

General meeting: The Royal Air Forces Association, Blackhall branch is holding its annual meeting tomorrow at 7.30pm in Middle Street, Blackhall.
