A TV-LED push to reduce crime is receiving an increasing number of tip-offs from people living in a Teesside town.

The Crimestoppers team has registered a large increase in calls from residents of Middlesbrough following the launch of the Dealer a Day clampdown on drug dealers in the town.

Thirteen people have been arrested for drugs possession and supply following a further ten raids on premises in the past week.

Officers recovered heroin, Ecstasy, amphetamine and cannabis, with a combined street value of £1,450.

Of those arrested for drug possession offences, three men, aged 22, 29 and 34, have been charged with possession of heroin and cannabis.

A 25-year-old man was bailed pending forensic tests and a 15-year-old boy was cautioned for possession of cannabis.

A 39-year-old man has been charged with money laundering, resulting from a raid earlier this month.

The head of Middlesbrough Police's Operational Support Unit, Inspector Gary Gamesby, said: "I would like to thank the public for their continued support with the operations.

"Crimestoppers are reporting a major increase in information from the Middlesbrough community since the start of Dealer a Day.

"Please continue to provide this information."

Anyone who has information about drug dealers in the community is asked to contact any police officer or to call Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
