ENGLAND'S success against Argentina in the World Cup yesterday sparked an impromptu football match in Darlington.

Dozens of fans set up a makeshift pitch in the town's Market Square and revellers from nearby pubs piled out to watch the kickabout.

Although the skills of the joyous revellers may not have been quite in the same league as the game in Sapporo, those watching were happy to lend their support.

Andrew Park, 29, of Darlington, said: "Everybody is so happy that we beat Argentina in Japan that I don't think they care about the quality of the football in the market square.

"I think the amount of beer that everybody's drunk might also have something to do with it - everyone thinks they're David Beckham after a few pints."
